What is Class 4 Laser Therapy (high power laser)?
Class 4 Laser therapy is increasingly popular in rehabilitation because it reduces the need for medications and surgical interventions while providing non-invasive pain relief and accelerated tissue healing, without the side effects of traditional treatments. This particular Laser uses light energy and converts it to biomechanical energy by stimulating your own body’s healing mechanisms at the cellular level. In essence, it recruits your body’s own naturally occurring cellular turnover and enhances this mechanism so your body can fight pain and inflammation.
Why MLS (MultiWave Locked System) Laser Therapy is more effective than other laser systems?
MLS stands for Multiwave Lock System. It is a technology that delivers light in two distinct wavelengths – the 808 nanometer wavelength and the 905 nanometer wavelength. Why the two different wavelengths? The lower one concentrates on reduction in inflammation and edema, and the higher one concentrates on pain reduction resulting in an analgesic effect. The combination of these two wavelengths produces greater pain relief as they affect different pathways causing the pain. In addition, by working two different pathways, it is minimizing any thermal damage that could possibly occur to the cells. The dual action Laser light works on your cells at the cellular level, targeting the mitochondria. The mitochondria are considered the “powerhouse” of the cells. These microscopic mitochondria take nutrients from our bodies and create energy rich molecules for the cell.
This action causes the release of vasodilating chemicals, the stimulation of DNA and RNA (building blocks) synthesis, an increase in enzyme production, an increase of superdioxide dismutase activity, normalisation of tissue Ph and increased ATP production (healing of the cells from the inside).

Key Features of MLS Laser Therapy (Mphi75)

This innovative technology combines dual wavelengths with non-heating technology to enhance tissue repair, reduce inflammation, and provide significant pain relief, setting it apart from other laser therapy devices. MLS laser doesn’t have adverse effects and works best in the acute/ inflammatory phase due to its strong anti-inflammatory effect without creating heat.
High Power Output without creating heat:
The Mphi75 delivers up to 75 watts of peak power, allowing for deeper tissue penetration and more effective treatments in less time. While other laser brands use 10, 25, and 40 watts of power, they may have a chance of some adverse effects in the acute phase due to increased inflammation from heat. The MLS laser, patented for its non-thermal effect, enables the use of higher energy levels for better results without damaging the tissues.

The Benefits of Laser Therapy in our Midtown, NY office.
- Rapid Relief of Pain
- Strong Anti-inflammatory Effect
- Timely Healing of Sprains & Strains
- Rapid Resolution of Swollen Areas
- Immediate Improvement of Local Blood Circulation
- Rapid Repair of Superficial Injuries, Such as Wounds and Ulcers
- Rapid recovery from the surgery (Both pre/post surgical case)
Class 4 MLS Laser Therapy is used to treat a variety of conditions at our Manhattan, New York office, including:
- Acute Pain: MLS laser therapy can help relieve pain from a number of conditions, including muscle, tendon, ligament pain, joint pain, and neck/ back pain.
- Inflammation: MLS laser therapy has a very strong anti-inflammatory reaction. It is beneficial for various conditions involving inflammation and pain, such as acute neck and back pain, ankle sprain, plantar fasciitis, tendinitis, and post-surgical pain and swelling.
- TMJ dysfunction and craniofacial pain: MLS laser therapy can reduce pain, inflammation and swelling in the face and jaw muscles. It can be a great adjunct to manual therapy.
- Arthritis: MLS laser therapy reduces joint inflammation and pain, while improving mobility by stimulating endorphin release and enhancing joint flexibility.
- Degenerative Joint Disease: It helps manage pain, slows disease progression, and stimulates tissue repair to maintain joint function and delay more invasive interventions.
- Trauma: MLS laser therapy can help treat muscular and skeletal system trauma, including sports injuries and sprains and strains.
- Neuropathy: MLS laser therapy can help treat neuropathy, including diabetic neuropathy and other types of neuropathy.
- Pre/post surgery: It is used preoperatively to reduce inflammation, manage pain, and enhance blood flow, and postoperatively to accelerate healing, diminish pain and swelling, prevent scar tissue formation, and improve mobility, thereby optimizing surgical outcomes and recovery times.
- Wounds and Ulcers: It accelerates healing in wounds and ulcers by enhancing cellular regeneration, increasing collagen production, and improving blood flow to the affected area.
Treatment Program
From your first visit, we will make a treatment plan based on your condition. The below are the treatment options. If you want to have thorough evaluation, please choose the comprehensive treatment option for your first visit then our physical therapy doctor will recommend what will be the best program for you
- Laser Therapy only session: consultation and laser therapy, 15 – 20 minutes
- Comprehensive treatment including Laser Therapy: assessment, manual therapy, exercise program, laser therapy, 1 hour
- If you have connective tissue dysfunction (such as trigger points, adhesions, or scar tissue), other treatment methods like Manual therapy, the Graston technique, or Shockwave therapy (ESWT) may be recommended to include in your program.
MLS Laser uses higher power energy (75 Watt) thanks to Non-heating technology. It does not create heat so we can use higher energy without damaging tissues. MLS laser therapy is very effective in the acute stages when there is pain and inflammation, due to its non-thermal technology and strong anti-inflammatory effects.
No, laser therapy does not hurt. There is little or no sensation during treatment.
The length of a typical treatment session is 10 to 20 minutes. However, it depends on the size of the area being treated. Treatments are usually received 2-3 times a week. Treatment plans are determined on an individual basis.
