Habitual Pattern Modification Program

Structure and Function are so deeply interrelated that it is called structure follows function and function follows structure. In practical words, your body structures will adapt to your posture and movement pattern. Vice versa, if you have adapted tissue structures, it won't allow you to move the other way.

The most common pattern is bearing body weight on the left leg as a favorable supporting side and making right leg relatively weight free as a preferable mobile side. Body structures will adjust to this condition and if an imbalance has worsened, it will develop the below issues (Refer to the left picture):

  • Tight left hip joint and left back
  • Over-developed left side back muscle (back extensors)
  • Leg length discrepancy (Right leg longer, left leg shorter)
  • Spine curvature (C or S curve, convex on the left low back)
  • Decreased foot arch in the right foot

Type 1

Rt mobile, longer leg/ Lt shorter, supporting leg

Type 2

Lt mobile, longer leg/ Rt shorter, supporting leg

If this habitual pattern makes imbalance and distortion too much, you will begin to feel discomfort. Even with the best treatment, if you keep doing the same pattern for the rest of the time, the problem will come back soon.

Habitual pattern modification program focuses on doing the opposite pattern or at least balanced pattern until the body restores symmetry and self-regulation.

This self-correction program is educated at the clinic and will be applied by yourself in your daily life. It will facilitate your healing process once performed diligently.

Double Scale Measurement for Body Imbalance

Prepare 2 scales and stand on the scales placing the foot in the center each. Don't look down for the first 5-10 seconds to avoid conscious weight adjustment. Check weight difference with natural standing posture.

It is most likely that the heavier side is a supporting leg and the lighter side is a mobile leg for you. This is one of the most valuable tests when we check or confirm body imbalance pattern.
